Dussehra, also
called Vijayadashami , The festival of Dussehra falls
twenty days before the Diwali. An auspicious day to start
with any good work, It was today that anybody can start the day with
new thoughts & new ideas. The harvest season begins at this time
and so is invoked to start the new harvest season . Many Hindus
also believe that it is lucky to start a new Business , project it
brings success. So laying-in of foundation of a new building,
opening of a new commercial are started on this day. The Hindus
in India celebrate the festival with great fanfare & prompt with
show . It is a festival enjoyed by all. It is a gazetted holiday in
India, Ram and Ravana went on during these 10 days and Ravana was
killed by the hands of Ram on the tenth day.That why Dussehra
can be refereed as “DASA-HAARR” which means cutting of heads of
RAVANA . All the Hindus living in India celebrate this festival. It
is a ten day festival celebrated in honors of the mother Goddess. It
is also a festival to celebrate victory of good over evil.
Dusherra
is
also treated as Vishwakarma Divas - the National Labor Day
of India. According
to Old History , Viswakarma is also supposed to have
built Dwarka overnight
where the Loard Krishna Lived . The Vishwakarma Puja is
celebrated in all parts of India.
Pictures
of Lord Vishwakarma is palce in the Offices & Factory All
workers gather in one common place and perform the puja. Also
on this day vehicles, machineries, books, weapons &
also tools are worshipped.
Vijayadashami
is also the day of Mother Saraswati who is called the Godess of
Knowledge & learning.

eople worship Goddess Durga all the nine days and celebrate Dussehra
as it was on that day that the demon Mahisasura was killed by the
Goddess In West Bengal, A variety of cultural programs are also
presented in the public pandals where Durga Pooja is held it is the
time to take part in Visarjan immersion of Durga idols which
are worshipped for nine days prior to Dussehra. Beautiful idols
of the Mother Goddess are worshipped in colourful pandals
for nine days, and on the ninth day, these are carried out in
procession for visarjan in a river or pond These
statues are made with the clay & the pooja is performed with
turmeric and other pooja items the
ritual of immersing the idol of Goddess Durga in the nearest water
body, such as river or lake. In Himachal Pradesh, it is famous
as "Kullu Dussehra", This
makes water useful for the farmers & yields better crops.
Dusherra
is
celebrated for ten days. Preparations for the festival start many
days earlier. In Gujarat, during the Navaratri days the ladies &
gents play a typical dance called Raas Garba every night. The
women dance with singing devotional songs simultaneously by
rhythmic clapping of hands. Durga
is also worshipped as Kali Mata as a symbol of Shakti. In U.P
Devotees perform aarti after taking a dip at the Sangam on the
occasion of Dusherra in Allahabad.
Various
cultural programs are organized across all over the India to
symbolize the victory of bad over evil.
Ramleela is
organized in many parts of the country and people enjoy the enactment
of the play based on Ramayana. The
actors playing the role of Lord Rama, Sita, Hanuman and Lakshaman are
taken out in procession. Everyone
is happy and joyous. Each one attends the celebration in his best
spirits. During the
festival days, the markets get
crowded. On
the tenth day, there is a great fair. Huge number of people comes to
watch the show. Children are particularly in a mood to fun and
enjoyment
,Children
wear new clothes. People look cheerful and happy. The shops are
decorated. The people buy sweets .In
the evening the fair is in full swing. Shops of toys are crowded with
children. Children also like to buy balloons. Everyone is happy and
enjoys himself. The actors playing the role of Lord Rama, Sita,
Hanuman and Lakshaman are taken out in procession.
There
huge effigies of Ravana, Kumbakarna his brother, and Meghanadha his
son, are erected are set up with explosives, crackers,
etc. They can be seen from afar. They are made of bamboo sticks and
coloured papers.. At sunset, Ram throws a fiery arrow at them and
they are set on fire. Shops
of toys are crowded with children. Children also like to buy
balloons. Everyone is happy and enjoys himself
.
Sellers
have a good business on this day.
people
go out for dinner and celebrate with their family. So on a whole
there is a total environment of joy all over the country during this
day.

There
is a spirit of brotherhood seen during festival seasons. It
would have been peace and harmony all around. Dushera
celebrated in different ways in different parts of India, and it is a
festival of joy for all. All consider it as a celebration of victory
of good over evil. It is a festival enjoyed by all. The way of
celebrating the festival is different for different people but the
reason behind all of it is the same ‘victory of good over evil.’
